Coppermines valley

Coppermine Valley is a wide valley located north of Lake Coniston. It is a wide valley between Mt. Oldman and Weatherham. This cirque valley was not formed by water flow, but by snowfields and glaciers. This is the hilly area depicted in "Pigeon Post", where copper and other ores were literally mined. There are many remains of mines around here, and I can still see places where ores are being transported.
On the west side of this valley stands the Oldman of Coniston, 803m high, which is also known as "Kangchenjunga".
A cold stream flows in the middle of the wide valley. Sheep are allowed to roam everywhere around here, so you should not drink the cold stream water. There were sheep on the top of Oldman as well.
There are no trees on the slopes, and some are covered with stones and ferns. After a short climb you will emerge into a rocky wilderness.

The houses around here are made of layered slate. Flat stones are brought out and used as building materials, and not only the walls of the houses but also the roofs, stone walls and bridges are made of stone. By layering many stones together to make thick walls, a strong house can be built. In Japan, wood is available in abundance, so buildings are made of wood, but here slate is used. Wherever possible, materials that are abundant in the area are used for construction.
Apart from slate, the other materials mined around here are copper, lead, silver and graphite. (copper, lead, silver, graphite and slate)

I also found a horizontal path as written in "Pigeon Post". I saw it for a moment but the old pit is very dangerous. I went out just a bit as I tried not to touch the wall.

Dick discovered chalcopyrite. It is necessary to smelter to remove copper from now. However, if iron ore is mixed with charcoal and reduced, iron can be obtained but I think that chalcopyrite is not easy because it is CuFeS
2 in chemical formula.
If it is a gold ore he can surely withdraw gold by the way Dick tried.
